Happy Chinese New Year

January 26 & 27 are the first two days of Chinese New Year. These are national holidays here in Singapore. Families visit and gather for feasts and fun. Mandarin oranges are given as symbols of prosperity and red envelopes filled with money are given to children. Traditional buddhists pay respects to the ancestors in various ways, including the burning of "hell money." The vast majority of Singapore's nearly 5 million inhabitants will celebrate this holiday and participate in the more traditional aspects.
